Ms. Asher's law practice is devoted to special education advocacy, student disciplinary matters, mental health advocacy, and to civil rights litigation arising from the abuse of children in institutional settings.
Ms. Asher earned her Juris Doctor in 1989 from Rutgers School of Law-Newark, where she served as Book Review Editor of the Women's Rights Law Reporter and was a founding member of the school's public interest law foundation. She graduated from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor with a B.A. in Philosophy. Ms. Asher is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey, and is a member of the Bars of the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. She is also a member of the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates.
During her twelve-year tenure as a staff attorney in the Civil Division of New York City's Legal Aid Society, she concentrated on federal and state entitlement proceedings and litigation, and on the rights of public-assistance recipients to pursue training and educational opportunities.
